Old School

Found this guy at my favorite local thrift store for $19.

It immediately took me back to my high school days, and I knew my son could put it to good use if I could give it a makeover.

One requirement to prove it’s authenticity: gum under the table- it actually had some!

step-by-step:

Once I decided on colors, I went to Home Depot for spray paint (they seem to have a better selection than Lowe’s). I’d never tried Valspar spray paint before. It-is-awesome. The Metallic Silver reminds me of the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz. Such great color.

I used aluminum foil to cover any areas I did not want to get sprayed.

Initially, I planned on keeping the tabletop part of the desk silver, but realized that it would get marked up too easily:

With Chalkboard Paint being the craze around town, I decided it would be cooler to have a chalkboard table top for my little one to draw on:

…and the bottom basket is perfect for holding his coloring and activity books.
